Avenue of the Giants

For my semester long project, I am thinking of taking a look at the region known as the Avenue Of The Giants. This world-famous scenic drive is a 31-mile portion of old Highway 101 along the California coast. It host the largest trees in the world, the coastal redwoods. I have been there a few times before and find the place very interesting with the small towns and huge trees.

Wilbur and where the south begins

Throughout the time of our nation the south has been a place that is hard to define or draw boundries to. The line was thought to be the ohio river basin and the mason and dixon line. However nobody had ever really reaserched and done fieldwork to determine what seperated the north from the south socially and physically. When Wilbur Zelinsky wrote his article on Where the South Begins, he used many methods of fieldwork and research to determin the region. He looked not only at the physical landscape such as housing but also at social norms. His work gave a new meaning to the region of the south.
